Alexandria by RadoJavor Alexandria by RadoJavor
Painting done some time ago for the Total War:RomeII game. Caesar with the roman fleet is going to land in the mighty port of Alexandria. The next day he will meet Cleopatra and star an affair with her.
Done just in photshop with some help from my colleagues.

Amazing.  I feel like I'm on that ship looking out at the wonder that is the Lighthouse of Alexandria.  This is art that will stay in my memory for a long, long time.

I'm really sorry that you put all this hard work into concept art for a game that turned out to be completely broken. I wish the development team for the game had the same attention to detail as you.

WOW. Though the rope here, that's like at the foreground next to the captain's right arm, is really throwing me off. But.. fuck it.. this is perfection :)

Hi Rado, I like your artwork. But here the critics:
While the technical execution of the art is nearly flawless (use more orange for the sunset light), the ships are still full of constructional errors.

I am in maritime archaeology and specialize in ship reconstructions of ancient Roman and medieval Byzantine ships. In your case, I suspect that you used some Imai model kits of ancient Roman ships as source. But those model kits are full of errors because they never had any person with deeper knowledge as part of their staff, they always just copied what they saw somewhere without being able to know if a source was correct or wrong. I think, that is the reason why all movies and PC games are using inaccurate or strange ships, instead of the correct authentic ones. And trust me, the authentic ships are even more impressive.

I love your work! I am a big fan of the Total War series but unfortunately I won't be able to play Rome II for some time to come. That's why I launched the old Rome again recently :)

Awesome painting, dude, love the atmosphere of this historical scene. :) Crossing the Mediterranean must have been something in those old Roman boats, I can almost feel the ship rocking in the waves, hear the galley slaves rowing, and feel the salt spray just looking at this...

Beautiful as always and incredibly detailed. I love what you've done with the light here, brightest the furthest away from Caesar's fleet then bleeding into something more threatening. Stunning!
