Ambush by RadoJavor Ambush by RadoJavor
This was my first attempt to paint a battle and forest together. Finished for empire total war as a first commision picture. The scene is a forest ambush in the war of Indipendence. Maybe the picture had a bit fantazy forest feeling but Im no t so good in painting real forests. The picture is 3 years old and I see now that many things can be done better.
Done in photoshop and tablet in some 30 hours.

you should not be worried about it being bad but you should now that if everyone always got good firsts then they would not strive that much to get better

Love the picture, seen so many times during my hours of play ! There should be a group for all Empire art... there is not enough 18th century art...

You say you aren't good at forests, but I love this picture!! I think you did an excelent job on the forest! It's sad that war has to tarnish everything it touches though.

Since the red coats got their arses handed to them 'several' times, it seems quite obvious that it worked well.

I play Empire Total War, and I have encountered this painting many times during loading screens. I always take a moment to admire it, it's extremely well executed and fitting to the game.

As for the forest having a slightly fantasy feel, I think it works really well. It has a 'mythic' feeling, which suits.

It's good, but the one criticism I have, if I may, is that 6 gunmen seem to have pulled their triggers at the exact same nano-second.

But the woods look like you used real paint, so that's good :-)

Based on the British flag they're carrying, I assume this is set in Western Europe - which yes confirms the inaccuracy of your forest there, which doesn't really match anything you'd find there.

Otherwise a beautiful peice.
