VERY... unusual ship design. Whats almost as weird is the architecture of the structures to the bottom left. They make me feel like this is a fantasy/horror piece... but Im seeing chopper gunships off in the distance along with some air support to the upper left. Very wierd, very apocalyptic, very favable.
For some reason I imagine them to be parts of a much bigger whole I guess its the ambiguity of the tentacles originating outside the actual picture. I always think, you know a painting is good when it makes you wonder about what isn't included within the frame.
I viewed the painting before bothering to read your description. It struck me as a living creature rather than a ship. And I can almost sense a face in the upper portion where all the tentacles are trailing upward. Let me explain where I see this face ....
If you pretend those three claw-like appendages are three arms, and if you imagine those three "arms" are attached to a neck, you can then allow your eye to look ABOVE the "neck" and at last see the face I am referring to, veiled in the tentacles. It's a face whose eyes seem to be the two lenses of an over-sized pair of sunglasses. And below the "sunglasses," the right half of the face (from OUR right perspective, so I am referring to "its" left half of the face) is lit up with sympathetic light, while the other half of the face is in shadow.
